Edo State Government, acting through the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Ministry of Justice, has issued legal advice in respect of Criminal Reference CR: 30/2026, following a review of the case file forwarded by the Edo State Police Command.
The case, which involved allegations of conspiracy, cultism and promoting armed attack against fourteen (14) suspects, was subjected to thorough legal scrutiny by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions on behalf of Edo Government.
After a careful examination of the facts and evidence contained in the duplicate case file, Edo State Government, through the DPP, found that no prima facie case has been established against the suspects. Consequently, it has been advised that they be released if still in custody.
Edo State Government reiterates that while it maintains a zero-tolerance stance against cultism, violent crimes and any act capable of disturbing public peace, it remains firmly committed to the rule of law and due process.
Prosecution must be guided by credible and sufficient evidence, not mere allegations.
The administration assures residents that it will continue to support security agencies in their efforts to combat crime, while ensuring that justice is fair, objective and in strict compliance with constitutional provisions.
Edo State Government urges members of the public to remain calm and law-abiding as efforts to sustain peace and security across the State continue.
