BENIN CITY: A youth advocacy group, the Indomitable Youths Organisation (IYO), has joined the global community in celebrating women for their contributions to community development and social transformation as the world marks International Women’s Day.

In a message commemorating the day, the organisation highlighted the vital roles women continue to play in strengthening communities through mentorship, advocacy, and everyday acts of compassion that often go unnoticed but have lasting impact.

Dr. Oniovokukor Bright of the Indomitable Youths Organisation said the group was proud to celebrate women who, despite numerous challenges, remain committed to uplifting one another and inspiring positive change within society.

According to him, women across communities are quietly shaping a better future by guiding younger generations and equipping them with valuable skills and knowledge needed to thrive. He noted that through mentoring and skill-building initiatives, many women are helping others unlock opportunities and develop confidence in their abilities.

Bright also emphasised the growing role of women in advocacy and empowerment, pointing out that many are increasingly standing up for the rights and opportunities of other women and girls, thereby strengthening the collective voice for equality and social justice.

He further observed that beyond formal activism, countless women serve as “everyday heroes,” carrying out small but meaningful acts of kindness and support that create a ripple effect of encouragement and empowerment within families and communities.

While congratulating women around the world on the occasion, the youth organisation urged continued solidarity and collaboration in advancing gender equality and expanding opportunities for women and girls.

The statement echoed the words of Sima Bahous, Executive Director of UN Women, who has called for sustained global commitment to women’s rights and dignity.

“We must stand up, show up, and speak up for rights, justice and action so that all women and girls can live safely, speak freely and exist equally,” Bahous said.

The group concluded by encouraging society to continue supporting initiatives that empower women, noting that the progress of communities is closely tied to the advancement and wellbeing of women and girls.
