The Edo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development and the management of Igbinedion Education Centre, Benin City, have reacted to a disturbing video circulating on social media showing some male students allegedly assaulting another student within the school premises.

In a statement signed by the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. (Mrs.) Eugenia Abdallah, the Ministry strongly condemned the incident, describing it as deeply troubling and unacceptable.

The Ministry said violence, bullying, and any form of abuse among students undermine the values of respect, safety, and dignity that educational institutions are meant to uphold.

According to the statement, schools must remain safe environments where every child can learn, grow, and thrive without fear of intimidation or harm.

The Ministry disclosed that it is already engaging with relevant authorities and the management of the school to ensure that the matter is thoroughly investigated and that appropriate actions are taken in line with child protection laws and school regulations.

It also called on parents, guardians, school administrators, and members of the wider community to reinforce values of empathy, discipline, and respect among young people.

“Bullying and violence must never be tolerated, and all stakeholders must work collectively to prevent such incidents and safeguard the well-being of our children,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, the management of Igbinedion Education Centre has confirmed that disciplinary action has been taken against the students involved in the incident.

In an official response dated March 13, 2026, the school stated that it became aware of the video showing a student being bullied and physically assaulted by other students and immediately commenced an internal review of the incident.

The school described the behaviour captured in the video as unacceptable and contrary to its values and code of conduct.

According to the management, the students involved have been expelled from the school pending further investigations, while the institution continues to cooperate with relevant authorities handling the matter.

The school reiterated its zero-tolerance policy for bullying, violence, and harassment, stressing that the safety and well-being of students remain a top priority.

It further appealed to parents and guardians for understanding and cooperation while investigations continue.

The Edo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development reassured the public that it remains committed to protecting the rights and welfare of children across the state and will continue to work with relevant agencies to ensure justice, accountability, and the prevention of similar incidents in the future.
