BENIN CITY — The Edo State Ministry of Education has set up a five-man committee to investigate a bullying incident involving students of a private school in Benin City after a video of the assault surfaced on social media.

In a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Edith Ebomoyi, the government said it strongly condemned the incident, describing the act captured in the viral video as disturbing and unacceptable.

The statement said the video showed a student physically assaulting another student, an action the ministry noted runs contrary to the standards of discipline, safety and respect expected in schools across Edo State.

According to the ministry, the investigative committee has been mandated to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the factors that led to the assault.

It added that the students directly involved in the incident had already been expelled and would face legal consequences as part of efforts to deter similar behaviour among other students.

The ministry further disclosed that it would conduct a comprehensive audit of the school to assess student activities and ensure that adequate safety measures are in place to protect every child.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to the welfare of students, the ministry said it would continue to uphold educational standards and ensure that schools across the state remain safe environments for learning.
