The People Democratic Party chieftain, Mr. David Ebhomien, was on Friday 8, March 2019 burnt alive by suspected thugs, led by the suspect Stanley Olobi of All Progressive Party.
Mr. David Ebhomien with other party members were said to have returned from Ekpoma where they went to collect some materials for the Saturday’s election in Ujiogba, and headed straight to the house of the Ward Chairman Mr Olobi Orunebho, where other PDP party members converged for a meeting ahead of the elections. While the meeting was on going, voices were raised against between party members seated
Thugs led by one Mr Stanley Olobi stormed the meeting venue where PDP members were gathered and they forcefully asked all the meeting stake-holders to leave the meeting venue remaining Mr David Ebhomien,
They were said to have then sprayed the building with petrol, set it ablaze and fired continuously, as terrified villagers watched from afar.
The blood-thirsty thugs waited, shooting and watching with relish while Mr. David Ebhomien cried from inside the inferno, with all the doors in the house locked.
“They left after setting fire on house with Mr David in it.” until his son Ebhomien Evans and some good Samaritans came and rescue him with serious burnt.
Mr David was conveyed to nearby hospital in Ebele but due to the degree of burns, Mr. David Ebhomien was later referred to Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital for prompt medical attention but later die the next day on the 9th of march 2019.
A member of the family of Mr David Ebhomien who spoke with our press men, disclosed that his father has never been in possession of any party money, rather was betrayed because they were envious of his political success.
“The corpse has been moved to the Irrua Teaching Hospital Mortuary for autopsy.”
According to the information gathered by the Nigeria Observer press, the son of the deceased , Francis Ebhomien allegedly conspired with some political thugs to disrupt September 2016 gubernatorial election at unit 002, Ward 2 in Esan West Local Government Area, Edo State. Attacking electorate and snatching of ballot boxes. A situation which prompted the Nigeria Police, declaring his person Wanted.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Transition Monitoring Team, express concern over the killing of David, saying it should be investigated.
The Edo State Police Command confirmed the incident through its Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, in a statement, said there was a misunderstanding between one Stanley Olobi, a member of the All Progressives Congress; and one Ebhomien Francis who happened to be the son of the decease, a member of the PDP, both of Ujiogba ward 2.
In a statement by the decease family, “We call on the Inspector General of Police to conduct an immediate investigation into the death of Mr. David Ebhomien, while all steps should be taken to bring to book the perpetrators of this dastardly act.
