The police in Benin have declared one Brown Enigie wanted to face justice for his reckless driving which claimed three lives along upper sokponba road in Benin on Friday,December 5,2008.
According to the police, Brown Enigie whose reckless driving on that day claimed the lives of three innocent people is wanted for charges bordering on culpable homicide and man slaughter.
The police statement signed by Peter Ogboi (ASP) described Brown Enigie as fair in coplexion, 5. 9 feet tall and urged members of the public with useful information as to his whereabouts to report to the Area Command, Benin or the nearest police station.
The accident occurred at the early hours of Friday after the driver now at large, lost control of his 404 Peugeot pickup van and smashed the victims on the walkway, killing three of them instantly while five others were injured including himself while his vehicle ended up in the gutter.
It was also gathered that sympathisers including fellow drivers rushed to the scene and helped the injured to the nearby Hospital for treatment before the police were called in.
The Nigerian Observer gathered that the fleeing Brown sneaked out of the hospital where he was eaqually taking treatment when he got wind of attempts by families and relatives of some of the victims were coming after him, at the Hospital.
Our investigation also revealed that the driver is most unlikely to be free of blame as he is said not to posess a valid driver’s license which further compounds his case.
An eye witness account says that the driver was at fault as he was said to be on top speed and was swerved by an oncoming bus and that as he attempted to avoid a head on collision he lost control and killed the pedestrians on the walkway.
It was learnt that some family members of the victims of the accident have threatened to avenge the death of their loved ones by any means.
