A former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, who had been declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after leaving office, was brought before Justice Maryanne Anenih of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.
The court ordered Bello’s remand in EFCC custody pending the hearing of his bail application, which has been scheduled for December 10, 2024.
Bello, alongside two others, Shaibu Oriche and Abdulsam Hudu, is facing a 16-count charge of alleged fraud brought against them by the EFCC.
Justice Anenih emphasized the need for due process in handling the charges and directed that the accused remain in EFCC custody until the next court sitting.
The case has attracted significant public attention, with allegations of financial improprieties surfacing shortly after Bello’s tenure as governor ended.
His arrest and arraignment mark a significant development in the EFCC’s effort to prosecute high-profile cases of alleged corruption.
