… as Gov. Obaseki names it after Chief Tayo Apata

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, launched the Education Hub and Teachers Hall of Fame on November 5, aiming to honour outstanding teachers who have made a lasting impact on education in the state. The event drew notable dignitaries, including Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubisi Mba; Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwa, former Governor of Sokoto State; Edo State Deputy Governor, Godwin Marvelous; Dr. Tony Osaigbovo Iyoha; Education Commissioner, Dr. Joan Osa-Oviawe, and Physical Planning and Urban Development Commissioner, Isoken Omo.

Dr. Joan Osa-Oviawe during the unveiling of the education hub and teachers hall of fame expressed her appreciation, asserting it was the first hall of fame dedicated to teachers. She highlighted the importance of teachers instilling value in their students. The teachers’ hall of fame is situated at the Ministry of Education, reserved specially for celebrating teachers. 23 teachers were inducted and 11 were post homous.

Dr Ndubisi Mba praised Governor Godwin Obaseki’s achievements, describing them as truly life inspiring.

The governor of Edo State expressed his delight over the commissioning, saying, “The education hub is a summary of the progress of education in Edo State.” He stated it consists of the Ministry of Education, the Board for Basic Education, Secondary and Technical Education, Library Board and Primary Healthcare Centre. He also mentioned a basic school from primary one to JSS 3 designed as a sample school, sporting facilities, a restaurant and an auditorium to host events.

“The whole reforms we have undertaken in Edo have been centred around teachers, EdoBest succeeded because the focus was on teachers,” he said, noting that the teachers were first given technical training before finalizing the infrastructure of the education system.

He appreciated the teachers who laid the foundation of the education system in the state. In his statement, “We must always respect those leaders who came before us,” he said. With respect to this, Governor Obaseki named the Teachers Hub after Late Chief Tayo Apata, to be known as ‘Tayo Apata Education Hub’ and the Ministry of Education was also named by the governor after the commissioner of education, Joan Osa-Oviawe to show appreciation for her hardwork and transformation of the education system in the state.

In his closing remarks, the governor thanked the people of Edo for their support over the last eight years and spurred them to help put efforts to sustainable development in the education system.
