Camp United defeated Army Headquarters Garrison Command FC 7-6 on penalties to claim victory in the inaugural Army Barracks Youth Championship, held on Saturday at the Mambila Barracks field in Abuja.

The intense final saw Army Headquarters FC take the lead in the 17th minute through Cyril Simon. However, Babagana Umar equalised for Camp United in the 28th minute. Both teams created several scoring opportunities but failed to capitalise, leading to a penalty shootout to decide the winner.

In the third-place match, Zion Hearts Soccer Academy edged Merchandise FC 6-5 on penalties to secure the bronze medal.

The championship, featuring 16 participating clubs, was organised by the Army Headquarters Garrison Command. Commander Major General Koko Isoni announced that the tournament will become an annual event in Abuja, aimed at promoting grassroots sports and discovering young talents.

Expressing satisfaction with the competition, Major General Isoni said, “This tournament has met its objective of creating a platform to discover hidden talents and nurture them for successful careers.”

Camp United’s head coach, Cornelius Monday, described the victory as a fulfilling achievement, stating, “I am elated to lead my boys to win the maiden edition of this championship. It’s a proud moment for us.”
