This rejoinder addresses the misleading claim made on November 29, 2024, via the verified social media account of a former media aide to ex-Governor Godwin Obaseki.

The claim falsely alleges that Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, spent over five billion naira (N5 billion) to purchase a fleet of armored SUVs.

To set the record straight, the incumbent governor has not misappropriated funds to acquire luxury vehicles.

In fact, the controversial SUVs were purchased by the administration of former Governor Godwin Obaseki. This decision, made during his tenure, raises questions about priorities, especially given the dire needs of Edo citizens in healthcare, education, and infrastructure development.

The outgoing administration’s decision to spend excessively on vehicles for an incoming governor, a practice not mandated by the Nigerian Constitution underscores a pattern of reckless financial management.

Such acts reflect misplaced priorities and a disregard for the immediate challenges faced by the state.

The claim that Governor Okpebholo is “lavishing” funds on luxury vehicles is nothing more than a smear campaign orchestrated by detractors.

These efforts to tarnish his administration are baseless and fail to address the substantive issues left unresolved by the previous government.

The people of Edo State deserve a leadership that focuses on impactful governance rather than indulging in distractions or political theatrics.

The current administration remains committed to addressing critical developmental challenges and ensuring accountability in public spending.

We urge the good people of Edo State to disregard these unfounded allegations and focus on the progress and policies Governor Okpebholo’s administration aims to deliver.
