EKPOMA – The Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma-Edo State is to graduate a total 9,186 students at its 20th Convocation Ceremony, holding from October 14 to 22, 2016.
The number include 8,340 with degrees, 354 with diplomas and 492 for post graduate degrees certificates.
The convocation which covers 2013/2014 and 2014/2015 academic session will also feature conferment of honorary degree on the chief executive officer of Channels Television, Mr. John Momoh.
Vice-chancellor of the university, Prof. Ignatius Onimawo who made the disclosure at the Convocation press briefing, equally announced that the governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as well as the
governor-elect and the deputy governor-elect, Mr. Godwin Obaseki and Hon. Philip Shaibu respectively, will be among personalities expected at the event.
The vice-chancellor who assumed office about five months ago used the opportunity to explain some of his achievements, one of which he said included massive reduction in social ills like cultism, examination
malpractices and cases of sexual harassment.
He similarly disclosed that his administration had been able to retrieve hitherto un-accessed funds from TETFUND and the federal government NEEDS ASSESSMENT intervention funds, and have been directed
towards developmental projects.
Some others he said include up-to-date salary payment, computerization and internet compliance, and collaborative moves with five Canadian Universities for academic and cultural exchange/linkage programme for the benefit of students, staff and overall benefit of the university.
On the de-accredited programmes of the university, Prof. Onimawo said his administration was making efforts to remedy the inherited shortfalls, adding that issues that resulted in the de-accreditation had been addressed.
He used the opportunity to call on alumni of the university to partner with the institution to achieve his administration’s vision to reposition the university for greater achievements.
