…says Edo will continue to promote ,invest in developing grassroots talents
The Executive Chairman, Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele has restated the commitment of his commission to deliberate investment in grassroots talents development, insisting that it is the best way to stamp out age cheat in the system.
The Edo Sports Commission boss gave the assurance through the Permanent Secretary of the Commission Mrs A.P.Efe-Amenze when the commission received the state’s under 13 badminton team who participated in the South-South Badminton championship which held in Asaba,Delta state between 13th and 16th of August,2026 at the Stephen Keshi Stadium.
The Permanent Secretary who received the young athletes in behalf of the Commission chairman in her remarks said that the future is bright for Edo Sports as she welcome them back home after an impressive outing in Asaba.
” Let’s welcome our children back home. They are our future; our tomorrow leaders and our tomorrow athletes. I’m so happy to receive our young team. They went to Delta state to compete and represent Edo State. They saw and conquered and came back home as the second best team at the South south badminton championship.
” Iam so excited about the impressive outing of our children. It shows that the future is bright. We are confident that the future of our state in sports is not going to be bleak because we are investigating in grassroots sports development.
“We do not believe in age cheat. We believe in talents discovery and developing same because the future of our children is important to us.” She said.
” We welcome you back home our dear children. Continue to believe in yourselves. Our chairman has asked me to tell you that he is proud of you and he has directed us to work something out for you in appreciation of your good outing.” She said.
Earlier in an address,the secretary of the Edo State Badminton Association Mrs Oyebanji said that the state athletes recorded notable performances in the Under-13 Badminton Tournament, with Achinbong Joel winning gold in boys’ singles and mixed doubles, while Ita Bright secured gold in mixed doubles. She expressed the team’s appreciation for the reception accorded them by the commission.
