Edo State House of Assembly on Monday commended Governor Godwin Obaseki and members of the state security agencies for the prompt response in securing the release of the over 80% per cent of the abducted train passengers in Igueben train station.

The Speaker, Rt.Hon.Marcus Onobun made the commendation during the first plenary sitting for the third quarter fourth session of the 7th assembly following resumption of plenary for the lawmakers from recess.

Rt. Hon.Onobun commended Governor Godwin Obaseki and other security agencies in the state for their prompt response in the rescue operation which led to the release of some of the abducted train passengers in Igueben.

He said the feat was an assurance that Edo State is not a haven for criminal elements. Also, during plenary, the house received the report of the house standing committee on Youth and Humanitarian Affairs on a petition against the alleged illegal election of the Edo State Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria.

The house following the presentation of the report of the committee for consideration by the chairman Rt.Hon. Francis Okiye, the house mandated the state commissioner for youth and gender issues, Andrew Emwanta to appear before the parliament on the adjourned date.

Earlier, the house adopted a 55 sitting days and business calendar for the 3rd quarter, fourth session of the 7th assembly presented by the majority leader, Hon. Henry Okhuarobo.

The proposed calendar of 55 sitting days has 12, 20 and 23 days respectively for the month of January, February and March,2023 bringing the number of sitting days to 55 days.
