The Edo State Government has said it will continue to collaborate with relevant agencies in the empowerment of young female entrepreneurs in the State through the use of digital tools and technology in order to ensure world best practices are achieved.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Digital Economy, Science and Technology (MDEST), Ms. Yuwa Naps, made this known while delivering her keynote address at a two-day workshop for women in technology organized by the Ministry of Digital Economy, Science and Technology in collaboration with GIZ-SEDIN at the Central Hotel, Benin City.

The Permanent Secretary added that Edo State Government through the Ministry of Digital Economy, Science and Technology (MDEST) is partnering with GIZ to provide an enabling environment to showcase young entrepreneurs, thereby bridging the gap between the local and international market which will in turn bring about socio-economic dividends.

Earlier, the Head of Component – LED, GIZ-SEDIN, Sina Uti-Waziri, stated that the workshop was one of a series of workshops organized for female entrepreneurs active or interested in technology as a driver to their business, adding that the workshop was aimed at encouraging female entrepreneurs, helping them leverage on e-commerce and ensuring gender equality and inclusiveness in Edo State.

She further explained that the workshop would provide mentorship and support to women in tech, connecting them with experienced professionals in the e-commerce/digital economy sub-sector, thereby enhancing the growth of their business.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Eltel Peters, expressed joy while appreciating the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, and GIZ for the opportunity to learn new ways of doing business and stand as a brand that can compete globally.

Highpoint of the workshop was a panel discussion and fireside chat with successful women entrepreneurs and mentors, including Evelyn Imode (Head of Digital Marketing, Ministry of Business, Trades and Cooperatives), Renah Omo Osiemi (Chief Operating Officer, Zedcrest Wealth), Imade Bibowei Osuobeni (founder, Herfrica), Steven Osawaru, Osayi Tres Omokaro (Managing Director, Treskaro Solutions), Ojiugo Ajunwa (co-founder, Riterac Consulting), Isimeme Whyte (Chief Innovation Officer, Genius Hub), and Motunrayo Opayinka (founder, Womenovate).
