The International Forum for Women in Energy, Oil and Gas (WEOG) has urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to bring in more investors into the energy sector for sustainable growth.
WEOG made the call during the investiture, inauguration and induction of Delta chapter of Women in Energy, Oil and Gas (WEOG), Delta State.
Speaking on behalf of the International Forum for Women in Energy, Oil, and Gas (WEOG) , the newly inducted pioneer director of the Delta State chapter, Ogochukwu Okekpolo said, “Nigeria as a country was an energy-driven nation, that whatever affects the oil and gas industry also has a multiplier effect on every other sector.”
She added that, “Gas flaring does not only degenerate the environment, it is also a waste of resources. Oil and gas has a lot of by-products that can be useful in developing our economy.
“WEOG recognized the crucial role played by women in shaping the future of the energy, oil and gas sector in Nigeria.
“Women in oil and gas are shaping the future of energy. Today, we embark on a journey to amplify the voices, contributions and aspirations of women who have been and continue to be instrumental in driving innovation and progress in our field.
“Our forum is not just a gathering; it is a testament to our collective commitment to break barriers, challenge norms, and create a space where women can thrive and lead. We stand on the shoulders of those who came before us, pioneers who defied expectations and blazed trails, opening doors for the generations that followed.
“The energy, oil, and gas sector has long been considered male-dominated, but the landscape is changing. Our presence here today is a testament to the fact that women are not just seeking a seat at the table; we are ready to lead discussions, shape policies, and drive the transformation our industry so desperately needs.

“The Delta State chapter of the International Forum for Women in Energy, Oil, and Gas is not merely an organization; it is a force for change!
“We will be a platform for collaboration, mentorship, and advocacy. Our goal is to empower women at all levels, from entry level professionals to executives, ensuring that every woman in our industry has the support and resources she needs to succeed.
“Together, we will address challenges, celebrate achievements, and work towards a more inclusive and equitable future. We will build bridges, not just within our chapter but across the industry, fostering connections that will propel us forward.
“I invite each and every one of you to be an active participant in this journey. Your ideas, experiences, and perspectives are invaluable. Let us collaborate, inspire, and elevate each other, knowing that by doing so, we contribute not only to our individual success but to the prosperity of the entire energy sector,” she said.

Vincent Oyibode; the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs, Delta State, Hon. Princess Pat Ajudua; His Royal Majesty, Major General Mujakperwo rtd, the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom and the chairman traditional rulers in Delta State
