To ensure enhanced quality healthcare services for all residents in Edo State, the Edo State Health Insurance Commission (EDOHIS) recently organised an interactive training session for medical doctors and health facilities owners across the state.
Dr. Rock Amegor, the Director General of EDOHIS, represented by Dr. Obazee Osaze, family physician, and a consultant to the health insurance commission, highlighted the importance of the training, stating, “This initiative is crucial in ensuring that our healthcare providers are well-equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to deliver services under the health insurance scheme effectively. Our commitment is to provide quality healthcare for all residents of Edo State”.
The event, a concerted effort to improve healthcare delivery and ensure a seamless implementation of health insurance schemes, which attracted a wide array of healthcare professionals and stakeholders, held Thursday, May 30, at the EDOHIS conference hall at the state secretariat in Benin City.
The primary objective of the session was to enhance the understanding and compliance of healthcare providers with the state’s health insurance policies and procedures. By providing comprehensive training, the Commission aims to foster better collaboration between healthcare providers and the state’s health insurance system, ultimately leading to improved patient care and satisfaction.
According to Dr. Osaze, “Today, we are having an engagement session with health service providers, particularly the doctors. We use health service providers to treat our enrollees. It is part of what we do regularly to see the challenges they are facing, to intimate them with our processes, systems and protocols.
“The aim is to improve our services and provide better quality of care to our enrollees, who are the patients, and also to make the scheme sustainable so that more and more people can benefit from the scheme.”
The interactive session covered a range of essential topics, and participants were encouraged to actively engage in discussions and share their experiences and challenges faced in implementing the health insurance scheme. This interactive approach allowed for real-time problem-solving and the exchange of valuable insights.
Dr. Tope Oyilade, a participant and the medical director of God’s Victory Hospital, in Benin City, expressed his appreciation for the session, saying, “The training has been immensely beneficial. It has clarified many aspects of the health insurance process that were previously unclear, and I am now more confident in managing my clinic’s participation in the scheme.”
Dr. Oyilade said, “It was a great meeting and good interaction between the health insurance and the medical practitioners. So, it will help us render proper health care to our patients and help the project grow more and more.
“I want to say that this is the best we have had so far in this country, there is no other insurance that does things like this and we are grateful to them for what they are doing, we pray that this type of interaction will continue”.
The Edo State Health Insurance Commission plans to hold regular training sessions and workshops to continually update healthcare providers on new developments and improvements within the health insurance system. These efforts are part of the Commission’s broader strategy to ensure the sustainability and effectiveness of the health insurance scheme in Edo State.
The interactive training session marks a significant step towards enhancing the quality of healthcare services in Edo State. By equipping medical doctors and health facility owners with the necessary tools and knowledge, the Commission fosters a more efficient and patient-centric health insurance system that promises to benefit all residents.
