… Inspects road projects across Edo South

Commuters in Edo State are set to benefit from improved transport services as the newly rebranded Edo Line Nigeria Ltd. will officially commence operations on Thursday, 27 June 2025.

The announcement was made by Governor Monday Okpebholo during a working tour of key infrastructure projects across Edo South Senatorial District.

Governor Okpebholo, who visited the New Edo Line station to assess ongoing preparations, expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded so far.

Speaking after inspecting the facility, he stated: “I’ve just come to look at the work that is going on here, in the New Edo Line station. The vehicles are ready. Everything is set. We are trying to see how we can commence. The idea is to come and look at the level of preparation of our commencement.”

He was accompanied on the inspection by the Managing Director of the Edo State Transport Authority, Mr Oligbe Henshaw, who confirmed that operations will begin in earnest on the announced date.

“This is the State terminal for the New Edo Line Nigeria Ltd., and by the special grace of God, on the 27th of June this year, we shall be commencing operations properly,” Henshaw said.

He added that outstanding works at the terminal, including partitioning of administrative spaces, installation of CCTV surveillance systems, and equipping the control room, would be completed by next week Friday, ensuring full readiness before the launch date.

The establishment of the new Edo Line is expected to significantly boost public transportation across the state, providing structured, state-managed inter-city and intra-city mobility services that enhance both convenience and safety for commuters.

Beyond the transport terminal, Governor Okpebholo’s tour extended to other major infrastructure sites in the region.

At Sapele Road, a critical federal highway linking Edo and Delta States, the governor assessed progress and called on the contractor to expedite work in order to relieve the area of persistent traffic congestion.

Responding to the governor’s concerns, Li Ou Fu, Chief Executive Officer of the CBC Group, the firm handling the project, pledged to complete immediate works on the most problematic section of the road within two weeks.

He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to timely delivery and quality construction.

The governor’s tour also included stops at Temboga Road and Palace Road, both of which are undergoing reconstruction as part of his administration’s broader strategy to upgrade road networks and improve access in urban and semi-urban communities.

Governor Okpebholo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering critical infrastructure that meets the needs of Edo people.

He noted that transportation, road rehabilitation, and urban renewal remain key priorities in his governance agenda.
