Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele has met with 15 CEOs of commercials banks, with a promise to ensure availability of N200 notes. He said the N200 notes will be made available immediately to bank customers.
Emefiele said he has got the commitment of the heads of the banks to ease the current scarcity of redesigned banknotes across Nigeria.
President Muhammadu Buhari earlier today directed that the old N200 notes be circulated alongside the new one.
The CBN governor made the promise after a meeting with President Buhari in Aso Villa today. The meeting was also attended by the House of Representatives ad hoc committee on new naira redesign and naira swap policy at the presidential villa.
Emefiele appealed to the citizens to allow the policy to work, saying it will go a long way in helping the nation’s economy.
He assured that the central bank will continue to do everything possible to ease the sufferings currently being experienced by Nigerians due to the cash crunch.
