The Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Dr. Michael Tidi, has debunked rumour making the rounds on social media platforms of the planned closure of the popular Igbudu Market in Warri on Saturday, June 17, 2023, over traditional rites of passage for a monarch in the community.

In a statement signed by the Council Chairman on Friday, and made available to the press, the Council boss noted that the rites of passage of the Ovie of Agbarha, Warri, His Majesty London Orhifi Ememoh II, slated for Saturday, June 17, “Does not pose any security threat to traders in Igbudu Market and customers intending to carry out their usual purchases.”

The Council Chairman stated that “The Local Government had to make the clarification, following repeated inquiries from traders and other critical stakeholders.”

Tidi who reiterated that his administration holds traditional institutions in Warri South Local Government Area in the very highest esteem, however, decried the unnecessary closure of markets and other businesses at this time when people are struggling to make ends meet with the poor state of the economy which has been made even worse by the removal of fuel subsidy.
