Port Harcourt Refinery Complex has come back to life, the Nigerian Observer has learnt. The refinery complex commences operations today in line with the December 2023 deadline promised by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and the federal government for the completion of the first phase of the repair works.

It should be recalled that the immediate past administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari signed a rehabilitation contract in 2021 worth $1.5 billion with Marie Tecnimont to carry out repair work in order to get the 210,000 barrel per day refinery back on stream. The first phase of the repair works has been completed.

Welcoming the development, Rt. Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa, said Nigerians would be happy to receive this news as the NNPC Limited and the federal government kept to their promises of the December 2023 deadline.

He said: “I commend the Nigerian Government and President Bola Tinubu for the commitment to restart operations at the Port Harcourt Refinery. This significant move aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda, and I encourage fellow Nigerians to continue supporting these efforts for the overall success and economic development of our beloved country.
