A governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Ernest Afolabi Umakhihe, has solicited the support of party members in Edo North Senatorial District as well as subsequent nomination as the party flag bearer.

The governorship aspirant made the solicitation when he visited Auchi, Estako West; Fugar, Estako Central, and Agenebode, Etsako East, where he was received by chairmen of the party in the various local government areas.

The party chairmen, in their separate remarks, described the governorship aspirant as a reference point in administration when he was in the civil service as Permanent Secretary.

At Auchi, Estako West Local Government Area, chairman of the party, Alhaji Dada Ahmed, appreciated Dr Umakhihe for all the good work he has been doing for the people of Afemai. He expressed optimism that Dr. Umakhihe would continue to do more if given the opportunity.

He, therefore, appealed to the executives and members of the APC to give him the necessary support for him to get the nomination as the party’s governorship candidate.

At Agenebode, Etsako East, Peter Okponoghe, chairman of the party in the local government, while receiving the governorship aspirant, commended him for carrying out people-oriented projects when he was in the civil service. He urged him not to relent if nominated.

In separate remarks to executives and members of the party in Edo North, Dr. Umakhihe reiterated that the mandate he seeks is not for his personal interest but for the entire Edo people and the state as a whole.

The governorship aspirant, who noted that Edo state is richly blessed with all the natural resources, promised to attract investors to explore the mineral deposits in the area for the benefit of the people.

He emphasized that the health of the people would be a priority, just as he promised to upgrade primary health centres with modern facilities. He said after the upgrade, primary health centres in the state would be a first point of call for any health issues in the rural areas before taking such a person to the nearest hospital for adequate treatment.

He urged the people to support and nominate him as the flag bearer of the APC, as he promised to deliver on his promises.

Dr Umakhihe had a brief stopover at the residence of one of Edo Central APC leaders, Chief John Brai Aloye, where he stated that he was eminently qualified for the governorship position.

The APC leader, while receiving the aspirant, urged him to ensure he continues where the former governor (now a senator), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, stopped.
