The national power grid experienced another collapse on Monday 14th of October 2024 leaving millions of Nigerians in total darkness. The power generation dropped from 3.87 gigawatts at 5pm to 3.56Gw at 6pm and it went to 0.00 at about 7pm in the evening.
The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company confirmed that the grid collapsed in a statement released on Monday evening. The national grid which was designed to provide electricity to the nation collapsed as most states experienced the same shut down of power supply at the same time.
Most economic activities would be disrupted because most organizations need light in order to work well, especially institutions such as banks, health care, communication channels, transportations, among others.
Many Nigerians are already using social media to get the attention of the government and the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) in order to solve this crisis of the power supply shortage.
ChibuoyiSmiley in a tweet said for the past two nights he has been without light and he is hoping that it is not the national grid that is down.
The Nigeria government should hold an emergency meeting with the ministry of power, NERC, and Discos in order to resolve the issue of the national grid and infer quick and possible solutions before it gets out of hand.
