Wellspring University, Benin City, Edo State, has announced its 13th Convocation Ceremony scheduled to hold on Friday, 17th October 2025, at the University Auditorium.
Vice Chancellor of Wellspring University, Professor Isaac Rotimi Ajayi, gave the announcement at a press conference held in the university’s Senate Chambers on Thursday.
He announced that the university Senate would be presenting a total of 228 candidates for graduation this year, out of which 150 would be awarded first degrees and 78 with post-graduate diplomas and master’s degrees.
He further stated that 11 (7%) of the candidates graduated with First Class Honours degrees, 79 (53%) with Second Class Upper Division, 55 (37%) with Second Class Lower Division, and five (3%) in other categories.
“I am pleased to announce that Miss Eboigbodin Sonia Uwaila in the Computer Science Programme of the Department of Computing emerged as the Best Graduating Student with a CGPA of 4.96. Unlike last year when the honour went to a male student, this year a female student has reclaimed the prize—underscoring the healthy academic competition between genders at Wellspring University,” Professor Ajayi said.
He added that at the postgraduate level, the graduating class included 42 with Postgraduate Diplomas (PGD), one Master of Business Administration (MBA) and 35 with Master of Science (M.Sc.) degrees in various fields.
“Wellspring University stands today as a testimony that with God, vision, and hard work, great things are possible.
“The 2024/2025 academic session has been both eventful and fruitful. We admitted over 800 new students across undergraduate, postgraduate, part-time, top-up, and doctoral categories, bringing our total enrolment to 2,149 students. This steady growth reflects the rising reputation of Wellspring University as an institution of choice,” he stated.
Recounting the remarkable achievements the university recorded in the area of academics in the past year, Professor Ajayi said four key programmes—Nursing, Biochemistry, Public Health, and Information Technology—received full accreditation from the National Universities Commission, thus making all programmes in the university to be enjoying full accreditation of the NUC.
“Our Nursing programme, which began in 2021 with just 50 students, now has increased quota approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).
“Postgraduate Expansion: We secured approval to commence Ph.D. programmes in Accounting and International Relations, thereby expanding our postgraduate portfolio,” he said.
He further said the university’s Computing programmes earned full accreditation from the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria, further strengthening the employability of our graduates.
Also, the Wellspring University Nursing and Medical Laboratory Science students achieved a 100% pass rate in their respective professional examinations.
“Our staff have equally made us proud. Several academics successfully completed their doctoral degrees, while others excelled in international training programmes in areas such as artificial intelligence, econometrics, cybersecurity, and grant writing,” the Vice Chancellor said.
“By God’s grace, infrastructure continues to expand steadily. The University is currently funding the construction of a four-floor Innovation Hub and a Laboratory Complex for the proposed College of Medicine. Additional hostels have been leased, and our library resources have been strengthened with new print and digital collections.
“Financially, we are grateful to report that staff salaries, pensions, and obligations are fully up-to-date,” he said.
Responding to questions from journalists, Professor Ajayi said that to remain at the cutting edge of human capital development, tertiary institutions of education in Nigeria and elsewhere must brace up to equip their students with multiple skills, point them in the direction of entrepreneurship and acquaint them with fast-evolving technologies.
He further said that tertiary institutions of learning must further be creative in generating capital and operational resources in an increasingly competitive environment, as well as contribute to social and business development in their immediate environments and beyond.
He said fast evolving technological, business and social trends challenge tertiary institutions of learning to raise their game and position emerging generations of the youth for relevance and survival in an era of fast-paced development.
