The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has deferred its 293rd meeting earlier scheduled to hold on Monday, September 25, and and Tuesday, September 26, 2023.

CBN’s Director of Corporate Communications, Isa AbdulMumin, who announced this in a statement on Thursday, said a new date would be communicated.

He did not, however, disclose the specific reasons behind the deferment.

“A new date will be communicated in due course. We regret any inconvenience this change may cause our stakeholders and the general public,” AbdulMumin said.

Meanwhile, monetary experts say the CBN decision to defer the MPC meeting may have to do with the recent changes in the apex bank.

Recall that President Bola Tinubu last week named Olayemi Michael Cardoso as the new CBN governor while also approving the selection of four others to serve as deputy governors – Mrs. Emem Nnana Usoro, Mr. Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo, Mr. Philip Ikeazor, and Dr. Bala M. Bello.
