The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday confirmed the appointment of Dr. Olayemi Cardoso as the substantive governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The Senate also confirmed the four deputy governor nominees – Emem Nnana Usoro, Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo, Philip Ikeazor, and Dr. Bala M. Bello.

The confirmation followed the screening of Cardoso alongside the deputy governor nominees.

The new appointees are expected to steer the affairs of the apex bank in the next five years.

Cardoso had last week resumed as the CBN governor in an acting capacity pending his screening and confirmation by the Senate.

The Senate has also scheduled Tuesday, October 3, 2023 for the screening of two additional ministerial nominees, Dr. Jamila Ibrahim and Ayodele Olawande, who were appointed as Minister of Youths and Minister of State for Youths, respectively, by President Bola Tinubu while the National Assembly was on break.
