Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Thursday, signed the 2024 Appropriation Bill of N800bn into law, a day after he presented the budget estimates to the State House of Assembly led by factional Speaker, Edison Ehie.

The governor assented to the budget after Ehie and four other lawmakers loyal to the governor approved the bill.

The signing ceremony was held in the conference room of the Governor’s Office at the Government House, Port Harcourt.

The governor, in his opening address, said the estimated N800bn budget, tagged ‘Budget of Renewed Hope, Consolidation and Continuity’, would be well implemented to provide critical infrastructure like the second phase of the landmark Trans-Kalabari Road and meet the socio-economic needs of the people.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Ehie commended the governor’s foresight in expanding infrastructure and youth development through employment generation.

On Wednesday, the governor presented the budget estimates to five lawmakers led by Ehie, after the controversial demolition of the Assembly complex.

The ceremony was witnessed by the Deputy Governor, Prof Ngozi Odu; some members of the State Executive Council, present and former lawmakers who support Governor Fubara, and some chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the local government areas.
